Classic Gold Metal Eye Frames favored by Pilots and Jet Setters Alike!
Dual-bar metal rimmed frames with iconic “tear-drop” shaped lenses have been part of America’s DNA since the 1930s. Aviator frames evoke exclamations around the world of “Look, there goes a guy from the States”. First developed as sunglasses for early military pilots to protect their eyes from glare in the cockpit, these frames became identified with the “Flyboys”. Later, “tough as nails” General Douglas MacCarthur wore his aviators as he triumphantly returned to the Philippines, capturing the public imagination and cementing their place in American culture. Aviators are associated with fearless and bold individuals, and were featured in the film Top Gun with Tom Cruise. They're also worn by leaders to assure their authority was heeded as well as those who had achieved fame and wanted to flaunt it. Besides pilots, Aviators are the favored choice of American Presidents, astronauts, yacht owners, police officers, pro athletes, and movies stars.
Our frame designers researched the different versions of Aviators worn over the years, and were intrigued by the style known as the “Skull Temple”, which was the rage from the 1940s and 50s. Our Skull Temple Aviators are made from high-grade stainless steel with sturdy, flexible hinges, in gleaming gold hues that have a historically accurate bowed horizontal bridge. We also adjusted the size of the lenses to make them fit modern styles. If you seek a sleek and spare look as you wear them while piloting your wheels down the highway, or just want to tell the world you too are “tough as nails”, Focusers upgraded version of the Skull Temple Aviators were made with you in mind.
